Runner profile: Lorraine

For the latest runner profile, we have one of our members - Lorraine - being interviewed by fellow member Juliet.

Lorraine started running at the age of 58... an inspiration for those out there who think running is not for them!!

Lorraine says she was not really sporty at school and hadn't really joined in sports activities until she started running, so her achievements are even more amazing.

When did you start running?

In 2018, aged 58

What is your running goal for 2023?

Amsterdam Marathon

What has been your favourite run/race?

Chester half 2022 for the scenery and atmosphere

How did you get into running?

I went from my house in Weston and started jogging down the lanes. One Sunday I noticed there was a race on. One of the marshals told me about parkrun. I joined and met my friend Juliet there and we got into the routine of going every Saturday.

I now go marshalling, do charity runs, and parkrun, and have completed the Chester Marathon and London virtual marathon.

What race have you not yet done but dream of doing?

London Marathon

Best thing about running?

Good for your mind…mental health, well-being…sense of achievement, and happy with what you're doing, gives you confidence.

Doing runs for charity makes me feel good "It's an inspiration running, and a reward to yourself."

Top tip

Do warm-up exercises before running!

What a journey!! Above is a picture of Lorraine on a winter training run. I should also mention that Lorraine only has another 6 parkruns to get her 100.

Her fastest parkrun is 30.37. Also, Lorraine has several running diaries into which she records every run done!

Well done Lorraine, thanks for sharing your story! :)
